Melbourne: Australia's Knowledge Capital

Bild von simon.dueckert

At the New Club of Paris Future Center 2010 in Liechtenstein David Campbell gave a presentation on Melbourne being a knowledge capital. Here are my notes:

  • City of Melbourne: 89.759 (2008)
  • Global Knowledge Indicators
    • Global University City Index Rank 4 (2008)
    • UK Times Higher Education Supplement
    • UNESCO City of Literature Award (2008)
    • Economist Intelligence Unit Liveability Ranking (2007)
  • Office of Knowledge Capital (OKC) launched in 2008
    • should be an "agent of change"
    • based at city of Melbourne & jointly funded with 8 member University (Australian Catholic University, Deakin University, La Trobe University, Monash University, RMIT University, Swinburn University of Technology, Victoria University, University of Melbourne)
    • One of the projects: student welcome desk at the airport.
  • Outcome Focus: Knowlede Base -> Office of Knowledge Capital -> Innovation Ecosystem.
  • Future Melbourne Plan: the city plan that anyone can edit (Remark: this is a wiki! Since there are a lot of existing regional wikis in Europe, they can be used for participatory urban planning as well).
  • Melbourne will host the 3rd Knowledge Cities World Summit in November 2010 (Remark: see my blogs for Knowledge City Summit 2009 and Knowledge City Summit 2007).

I took some copies of the flyer of Melbourne Knowledge Capital with me. Talk to me if your interested. I also recorded a video of the talk and plan to make a "Knowledge Aperitivo" to talk about the issue of knowledge cities and show the video in the second half of the year.
